Katinsky House
Katinsky House is a residential building, constructed in 1913 by Architect. D. Fabricantin. Originally designed in the Romantic Style (known in Israel as the Eclectic Style) as a one-story house it was converted in 1928 into a two-story residential building by Eng. Y. Orenstein. The renovation plans included building additions and facade changes such as additional balconies and rounded arches.
In the 1980s the building was demolished and reconstructed with adaptations for an office building. Additional two floors were added in the form of a glass box while building details were entirely reconstructed.
Design of the two-story building addition takes into account the importance of the building as an example of romantic – eclectic style in Tel Aviv. The surrounding urban fabric – the historic Nachalat Binyamin neighborhood provided inspiration for a building addition in the form of organic planning that continues the original design concept from the 1920s, while growing upwards and accepting adaptations and recessions required to distinguish between the typical three-story Tel-Avivian historical structure and the new additional floors. The difficulty in combining modern design and the eclectic style was solved with an array of architectural details in the historical spirit while allowing a new composition as well as the construction of a modern penthouse with rounded lines combining traditional construction materials such as wood and zinc to create a complementary addition to the structure.
